I know NYC is gonna be bad which is why i don't really wanna go.
Is NJ any better?
Or should we drive to DC?
i think driving to a rich neighborhood sounds like the best.

<<<From Southern New Jersey, and in my area you can go to Best buy around 6-8hours pre opening and be the in the first 20 in line. Staples is great, there were 5 people waiting in line at my staples (somers point, nj) when I got there at 6am.
Can't speak for north jersey...if you go to a more suburban area though it is generally better (for the most part), or also areas with lower populations yet higher per capita incomes.

well you wouldn't actually SHOP in d.c. You probably mean Maryland or Northern VA. You don't want to shop in dc for many reasons, but primarily because sales tax is 10% and have little stores/malls to be at, but you will find some. Im not sure what type of people you'll get. Whether you're in a college area or just regular part of the city I wouldn't go there to shop. I wouldn't go to PG county either unless you go to Bowie Place or Cap Centre Blvd (which 90% of PG countians will go to b/c malls in PG suck-the rest of them will be in Northern VA, Anne Arundel Co, Mont. Co., Howard County). The Best Buy in Columbia has the highest sales in the area I believe so you know people will be there-it's a new one too.
As for northern VA you'll have plenty of options and competition. The same goes for the Baltimore area-of course you want to avoid Bmore City as much as possible and shop in the County if you can ie. Owings Mills, White Marsh, Catonsville, or even down to Columbia or Ellicott City.
But if I were you I wouldn't drive down past Columbia if I were coming all the way from NYC. Surely, there's good deals to be had closer to NYC. Four hours with a 42" lcd in your car is a long drive. IMO I'd go to Delaware and shop or Jersey or PA for that matter b/c of them being tax-free in most things although Delaware's tax free system is probably the cheapest.
come to NH.. no sales tax and not nearly as many people

If you want to do NJ you have to head out to boonies and maybe South Jersey, Northern Jersey is too close to NYC, I live in North Jersey and BB last year in Seacaucus was ridiculous. North Jersey is pretty densely populated(well the areas close to NYC). The fact is Northern Jersey stores will be hit by Jerseyians and New Yorkers that want slightly lower sales tax. Stuff in Seacacus area and Paramus area will be hit the hardest, those areas are easily accessible even to NYC ppl(for NYC those places are right off major highways that are accessible from GBW,Holland and Lincoln Tunnel).

clearly you're from up north and used to it b/c I was in Boston at South Bay to be exact last year and it was uhhhh DEFINITELY cold, raining, and freezing...good try though
<40 at night is pretty cold-especially when it's windy and raining. I find it hard to believe that NH was unusually warmer than Boston was.

only 3 BBs in my area so what we did last year was i drove to one, niece drove to another, and we compared on the phone. for 3rd one I was considering driving to in order to check it out, but person in line in front of me was on phone with her teammate who was at 3rd store and found out line was too long at 3rd place (yet another reason to be friendly with other folks in line). One I was at turned out to be the best choice, so niece then joined me.
The store that turned out to have shortest line was the one that was the newest and most difficult to get to (one way road, not in major shopping area, etc).
oklahoma here, btw.

No way, we had a warm winter last year. It wasn't bad at all! BF last year, I didn't even need a jacket and the rain was no big deal.

that explains the people who sat in the rain...call it what you want but 30 degrees with wind and rain is cold...yall are probably from new england i would imagine...warm being 30 at night? yeah ok...warm is 60+ in november...pull up the weather from that evening (thanksgiving)...I guarantee it was at a minimum 35

Uh yeah.. definatly stood outside in t shirts last year at 3 am, without a problem, not a single drop of rain. But becuase you were in Boston you must definatly know what the weather was like in NH.

that wasn't my point. My point was that if Boston was cold, wet, and windy there's no way that the temperature was considerably different in NH. Please don't give me crap-I lived in Maine for 4 years so I know about cold and I also know that it was rare that it was warmer in Maine than NH....just like NH being warmer than Boston. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I am saying last thanksgiving it wasn't a significant enough difference to say it wasn't cold.
I know it was 35 or less outside and regardless even if NH was 40 that's still cold when it's windy & raining. Lol at yall trying to say because you had on short sleeves it wasn't cold. Like I said I lived in Maine and I couldn't believe my eyes when the day we had like 2ft of snow I saw someone with shorts and a tshirt walking down the street. Does it mean it wasn't cold or snowing? NO! It's the same where I live now. If it's 65 degrees and someone has on a parka does that mean it's freezing? NO! BUT it does mean they thought it was cold enough to wear a parka? Yes.
I think most people will agree that 40 and below in the wind and rain at night with no humidity is cold and that fact isn't dependent on your shortsleeves and tshirts. LOL @ New Englanders trying to act like it felt like the Bahamas at the end of November.

Dallas is nice to shop in because it is usually about 55 degrees and there are a lot of stores in many areas.

Don't know what it is about Utah, but people here love to camp out in front of stores with tents, grills, you name it. Doorbusters will need to line up before 8pm if they want a chance.

I don't know about concord or nashua, but Manchester wouldn't be my first choice, only becuase everything is kinda spread out. It really depends on where you plan on shopping. For instance, BB is attached to the mall, with Macys, JCP, Sears and Old Navy. But Toys R US is across the street, Walmart is across the street, Cirtcuit City a few lights down the street and there isn't a Target. Traveling between these stores, IMO, would be a pain in the arse, traffic will be a nightmare. I'm closer to Manch, but I usually shop in Salem becuase it's not so hectic.

Oregon (Portland metro) is great because there is no tax. Plus there are many different stores just like in other big cities.
Unfortunatly, it's far away for most Californians. There really aren't any good metro areas in Orgeon after you count Salem and Portland.

I agree. It didn't rain on Thanksgiving last year and it wasn't cold out either, probably 50's. I also live in Southern NH and the weather last winter was pretty warm. Maybe we're just used to it. But we still had 100's at our Best Buy lined up. I'm in Nashua, NH but born and raised in MA. Don't come to NH it's supposed to be real cold and windy with sleet and freezing rain.... Watch it'll happen now that I said that!

I live in Nashua and have done BF there for 3 years. It's not bad at all in comparison to Watertown or Cambridge or Burlington, MA. We have 3 Walmarts and 2 Targets within 3 miles so things aren't that bad. The only thing not real close is KMART but I never think there's anything good there anyway. We get a lot of people from MA coming up to shop tax free but I don't really think it's that bad. So much on DW Hwy that it disburses well. We leave at about 3AM are usually first in line at whatever store (not Best Buy or Circuit City though) we do Target, KB, Sears, JC Penney, TRU, Walmart, Kohl's...it's a long morning but my favorite all year!:)

I'll be in Maine :) As long as you stay away from Portland (there was a line of probably 200+ by 8pm last Thanksgiving) should be fine. I'll most likely be joining the lineat BB in Auburn, ME by 6 or 7pm on Turkey Day especially if the 100$ laptop deal is for real.

Heh actually I think you got it exactly.
Bangor, Portland, Augusta, Auburn and Topsham are the only 5 that I'm aware of :)
The Auburn one shouldn't be bad though, most of the idiots stay near the major mall in Portland, we just got our BB built like 4 months ago, so I have a feeling it should be relatively idiot free since most people go to the Maine Mall for Black Friday :)

Everywhere around my area is packed by 8pm. BF 2005 wasnt so crowded but the temp was 14c pretty damned chilly. Last year it was wet and windy, and i believe it sleeted for a couple of hours, that didnt seem to deter people though as the line by midnight was 200 deep.
I know its kinda mean to say but i do pray for bad weather on BF to keep the crowd down. Last year was so busy that it got quite dangerous at one point, i'm not ashamed to say i was a little frightened.

Had great success at a Best Buy two BFs ago in Columbus while visiting my sister. We got there at about 10:45 and ended up snagging the 20th (ish) spot in line.

I'm in Central VA. I go every Thanksgiving between 10:00 & 11:00 pm and I'm usually about 8th - 10th in line. Fine for me because I usually get everything I want. It's colder than a witch's titty in a tin bra most BF's, but the Circuit City has an overhang to protect from the elements.
