I was hoping that some place would have a BF deal on either XBox360 system or PS3 system, any chance this would fly?

XBox 360 Pro w/Free Wireless Controller ($26 on FP a bit ago) & Two Games - $349.99 - http://www.blackfriday.info/ads/circuitcity-black-friday-ad.html
"a $60 gift card with purchase of an Xbox 360 and Halo 3 game" (sell the GC to possibly negate the game) - http://money.cnn.com/2007/11/08/news/companies/Target_blackfriday/index.htm?postversion=2007110808

Well, since wiis were recently $199.99 @ Marshall's. they'd have to do better than that. Don't see that happening.

Well the Sony will have released their 40GB PS3 for $399 by then probably bundled with Spiderman 3. The 80GB PS3 should be $499 bundled with a game or two & Spiderman 3. This comes with the 5 free Blu-ray movie rebate. This is should be a standard deal by then and should be everywhere unless they start selling out of the 40 gigger.
No word yet on if Microsoft will respond with their own price cuts.
I would expect CC & BB to maybe bundle stuff on top of that so if you are going to buy a system for the Christmas season it would be a good time to buy it because I don't think they would have sweeter deals until the new year.

systems don't go on sale much for black fridya. like $30 off or something.

systems don't go on sale on BF. They're mostly for consumer electronics that have markup.
they don't really make any money on systems, so they have no real reason to discount them.
if you're lucky, maybe a store will be like $xx off any item in store... but that's hardly likely
but You're more likely to see a big purchase incentive, (like a free accessory, or games, or movies) before a price cut on the system.

Meijer had a 360 at regular price w/ free game and wireless controller last year.
Using a 10% off card and returning the game and controller ($110 back) resulted in a slick deal!!
I'm sure there will be something similar

Yes, they will have them. At what price? Who knows.

If you are looking for a PS3, check Craigslist. I just bought one in town, got the following for $400:
- PS3 60GB version (good condition, only 1 scratch on top)
- Sony HDMI Cable
- 2 SIXAXIS controllers
- Carrying Case ($60 at Target)
- Resistence: Fall Of Man
If I got all this at Target, I would have spent $690 + $70 in taxes. Craigslist gets a bad rap sometimes, but this worked out for me.
Also, if you are waiting for the 40GB version, be aware that its rumored to have NO backwards compatibility with PS2 games. If you like your PS2 games like I do, try to find a 60GB version since it has the Emotion Engine (PS2 hardware). It has since been removed in the 80GB version.

40gb WILL have backward compatibility, only that it will be sowftware based like the xbox360, meaning not ALL of the games will work right away, but many will.

I swear, earlier this week, I read that the soon-to-be-released 40gb has no backwards compatibility at all with PS2 games. The 80gb has the emotion engine, the 60gb version has the software version of backwards compatibility, and that's it.

There is no PS2 backward compatibility for the 40 GB, only PS1. Atleast thats how it is going to be in Japan and Europe. Most likely as well in the US.
60 GB is fully Backwards compatible.
80 GB is like 80% or something because is only has some PS2 hardware, and the absence of the emotion engine.

You've got your facts mixed up here. 60GB has the emotion engine, 80GB does not, but uses sofware emulation. When all the 60GB's are sold out, the 80GB will be dropped to $499. Also, the emotion engine was adding cost to the units, so removing them from the 80GB made each new system $30 more profitable from the start.

Actually, last year on BF, Microcenter had the XBOX Core and Premium consoles for $100 off. My guess is that something along those lines will happen again this year. Plus, I'm sure a couple deals online will surface as well.

You are correct. The 40gb has absolutely NO backwards compatibility with PS2 games be it software or hardware. Sony took out software emulation on the 40gb models to add incentive for the 80gb model.

If they do sell these systems on BF, it'll only be for a slight discount, or if its a huge discount, they'll make it up by jacking the price of accessories up. They gotta make their money somehow.

Well no matter how much they take off the XBOX 360 it wont amount to me and the other lucky people that got a XBOX 360 Premium Console for $280 + $10 S&H at Meijer.com.

Last year Circuit City gave away a free game (any of your choice) with the purchase of any Xbox 360. I was able to combine it with a $40 off $200 coupon (which really shouldn't have worked, it excludes consoles) and got a pretty decent deal there. Maybe a similar deal will come up this year.

seeing how new the consoles are I couldn't see retailers knocking much off the price. Maybe there would be a PS3 $399 door buster or something like that but I couldn't see it going much lower. Hey who knows.

Just wanted to back up this comment.
40gb - NO PS1 or PS2 games will work, no emulation whatsoever
60gb - ALL PS1 and PS2 games will work via Hardware emulation
80gb - MANY PS2 games will work via Software emulation

Exception: 40GB is PS1 compatible. This is because it's entirely software emulation. Also this is key because they sell PS1 games on the Playstation Network (PSN).
I think they will eventually release an update for the 40GB that will give it PS2 compatibility but they just didn't have enough time.
40GB PS3 is going to be $399 so I wouldn't complain. ;-)

Probably no on the PS2 emulation with the 40GB model. Apparently there was a graphics chip that was still on board even with the Emotion Engine being taken out on the 80gb. That chip has been removed, from various tech forums I've read.
I'm one of the few that don't have a PS2 (Got one, used it a few times, sold it due to lack of interest/needing funds) so that does actually effect my own decision on buying one. (As there are still a lot of PS2 exclusive games I've never played and would like to)

My response to somebody wishing for a $250 PS3 in a different thread:
Not gonna happen. I got a 60 GB PS3 the other day (I had a store price match the Wal-Mart deal--$499 for console, blu-ray remote, a free game, and 5 free blu-ray DVDs). While purchasing it I asked the manager how PS3 sales have been lately. He said that since the 60 GB system came down to $499 with the freebies, sales have been nuts. He said his store went from 10 PS3s (60 GB) to 1 PS3 throughout the course of one weekend. And 40 GB pre-orders are supposedly mounting up. With such a strong demand as a result of the lower price, don't expect any further decreases in price for at least a few months.

Sad/deceptive thing is, some retail companies will make the 40GB seem like a real BF bargan, even though it's a normal price drop. In truth, I see the PS3 dropping off even more, maybe picking back up when MGS 4 rolls around.

Since the console prices are already dipping, we might expect something like an extra game or accessory thrown in, but probably nothing too dramatic.
for the amazon deal, was there any warning about the $100 xbox (ie email, on sd, etc.)?

I was hoping that some place would have a BF deal on either XBox360 system or PS3 system, any chance this would fly? There may be some deals. Though there is a special case with the PS3 60GB unit, it is no longer in production, supplies are running out, and it has the hardware emulation engine in it which newer units won't have. If backward compatibility is important to you, and a PS3 is in your future, it may not be the best idea to wait for a BF special on the 60GB units. As they will probably be all gone.

It was pre-announced. The servers were slammed, and they ended up doing the sales by a raffle. Your odds of getting one were very slim...

I already got my xbox 360 like 2-3 weeks ago, got the new chip and everything, i think at best it'll dip like 20-50 bucks, Although not likely because they're calling it "holiday bundle" haha. so if you need to play 1 now, just get it. beats waiting all those times.

that's miss info, the current holiday pack is this
Xbox 360 with 2 games (ultimate alliance + fonza 2) for 350
The one at best buy is the same + 1 extra wireless controler
The one at the CNN website is xbox 360 (maybe holiday bundle) + Halo 3 (the 60GC is for the halo 3).
There's another deal at CC, i think it comes with the free guitar hero.
So basically you will end up with 1 extra item worth about 60 bucks, that's actually not too bad, I've bought mine about 2-3 weeks ago, play with it, pretty good. After black friday there's always a rush to do things, with games system where you need some times to get used to isn't a great time.
