This is almost a theoretical question, but what are the current thought's of deals for LCD TV's this coming Black Friday (Nov. 2007)?

I am interested in buying a 37" to 42" LCD and wonder if it will be worth the wait. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks!

Walmart currently has the Vizio 37" for $750 or so...I hope it is under $600 for Christmas...or the 42" for less then $800...then I can get an HD DVD player to use with it.

My prediction is that 32" LCD's will go for about $300 this year. Or at least that's what I'm hoping anyways :)

I'm trying to decide between a 32" and 42" though - I guess it all depends what the sales are like this year.

Its awesome too because the Holiday prices set the bar for the next year. Prices go back up above their holiday season deals, but never the whole way. Its the great equalizer ;)

I want a 32" LCD HDTV, 720P/1080i for $300. 37" is a bit too big for my room. But I want something with a high contrast ratio (as bright as possible!) and a near-180 degree viewing angle (as close as possible!). I'd be willing to go as high as $400 for a quality 32" TV.

Yep, same thing I've done the last two years. I think two years ago the 37" was $700ish, and then last year it was $500. Maybe they'll go lower? Hoping for 32" for $300 and 37" for $400-450.

To be specific it was 480 for te 32 inch westinghouse. I got it a week after black friday for only 19 dollars more on that special to clear the leftover ones out from the warehouse!

it was a sweet deal!

If you are unsure of prices just look them up from last year. Microcenter had the best deal last year at 370 after REBATE. That was the catch. I expect a 32 inch to go for around 400 this year. Thats it!

A friend at best Buy said they will have an Insignia - 42" 720p Flat-Panel Plasma HDTV for $700, or $799.

Plasma TVs have a reported half life of 30,000 to 60,000 hours. Half-life is the time it takes the lamp to fade to half its original brightness. The backlights are replaceable.

LCD TVs also have replaceable backlights, but the expense of replacing one when the time comes may be greater than simply replacing the entire TV.

It's a toss up really, all based on opinion.

In my opinion, when comparing HD signal, every plasma I have ever seen in person, looks better then any LCD I've seen in person.

He probably spent $3000 on a Sony SXRD and is unhappy the prices have dropped on comparable units. As such, user has resorted to trashtalking anything less expensive of comparable quality. I saw an Aquos in a BB as well and was very impressed. One thing that I think would be insanely useful to all the TV threads that usually is lacking is what type of panel the LCD's are. People mention it all the time on the monitor threads, but don't seem to bother for HDTV. S-IPS monitors are really excellent. I imagine S-IPS TVs would be the same way.

who really here is going to keep a plasma for 10 years? buy now at good price then buy something else better ,bigger and cheaper in 3 years.

I agree with you about people replacing their sets sooner than later, but I wanted to clarify the half-life of a plasma. 60,000 hours would be 27 years if it the TV is on 6 hours per day every day. And this is its half-life; it's not like the set just dies at that point. I'm 26 and will be buying a plasma within the next 6 months. I don't plan to still be using that plasma when I'm 53 years old!

I usually keep a TV set for 5 years and then donate it to salvation army. I would be surprised to see people stick with the same set for more than 10 yrs. BTW I saw the LG 50PC5D in BB and CC. It is a 50" plasma. Gosh the picture beats every other model they had including Sony, Samsung and Panasonic just to mention a few. Anyone know how good LG tv's are? I might probably go for this one if the price comes to < $1000.

I am still using a Hitatchi 19' TV that I bought in 1991. It still has a really good picture and is a great bedroom TV. However, I am willing to get rid of it for the right price on a ~ 20" LCD this BF.

I am serious. It's a Samsung. It's not a great TV, but I bought my other furniture first (first time apartment). It has a built-in VCR that still works and everything. I'll probably keep it for my bedroom and put a nice big one in the living room.

My parents are using their tv from 1982!!! It either a hitachi or mitsubishi with a huge oak frame thingy around it. I believe it costs about $2000 at that time and it weighs a ton! It is one of those tvs that sit on the floor because its wood base/frame is made for that.

My parents have never wanted to upgrade, even when i offered to by them a new lcd tv but now once in a while the pictures turns into a thin line in the center of the screen and you have to turn off the tv for 10 minutes before it works again....the last gasp of the dinosaur...man i loved playing mega man and bionic commando on my NES on that tv. It was the shiznits! Enough nostalgia.

So now i decided to give them my samsung hd that i had for a few years ( its a fat boy) and purchase an thin HDTV for myself.

So here are some questions that i hope you wise folks may have some info on.

Has anyone found last year any deals on HDTVs after black friday but before xmas? examples?

I really have no problem in standing out in the cold for black friday but if i can spend $50 bucks more on cyber tuesday or anytime after that i would be happy. I would only be going for the hdtv aka god i dont want to be in the cold for more than 12 hours if i dont have to.

Forgive me...i am a BF virgin and am weak

I just got the TH-42PX75U from CC price matched to Boscov's http://www.boscovs.com/StoreFrontWeb/Product.bos?assortmentDepartmentNumber=7010500&itemNumber=17118&assortmentId=2&type=Product) who is currently selling the TV for 949.

1099.99 (Original CC Price
- 165.00 (110% Price Match)
934.99

It probably is going to be around 800 or less on black friday but it is not worth waiting in the freezing cold for 130 bucks. As a bonus I get an extra month of enjoyment....SED TVs are going to be here soon. Now I just need to get Comcast to install a CableCard in my TivoHD and I will be set.

Actually, most SDers are poor hence looking for deals here.

Personally, I'll be looking to replace 8 year old set with a nice 37" LCD ~$300- $400.

its so sad to think of how we think of some TVs being almost disposable now. I still have and use (occasionally) a 13" color TV that I got for xmas........1988. it wasnt even a great set back then, like $80, Admiral brand, from Montgomery Wards. sure, the picture isnt all that great anymore, but considering the price and how old it is, def not bat at all. and now here we are, talking about $500 and up sets, hoping they are decent for only 5 or 10 years.

what consumers we all are.....

but hell, if I can get me an SD on some LCDs, Im all over them. a 20 or so for the bathroom, a 37 or 42 for the bedroom, and a 50 plus for the living room.

as for the 50 plus, I am hoping for some deals on DLPs. they seem to have the best size to price ratio, and some of the Toshibas I have seen look outstanding. since I have to run so many cables up to it anyway, Im not concerned with mounting it on a wall, I am fine with putting it on a stand, so the extra depth isnt an issue.

I'm expecting 37" to be between $3-$500

I expect there will be a lower perhaps 20" model around 100.00 somewhere. Not saying it will be a name we all know and semi-trust... but, an lcd tv.

Over a year ago, I went into Sam's Club, where they had all the TVs next to each other in the store, I stood at a distance and picked the ones with the best picture. I ended up choosing all of the Samsung models. I ended up getting the LNS4051D and I love it! I later heard that Samsung and Sony are the way to go. Considering pricing, I would definitely suggest the Samsung over the others. Just my 2 cents.

Wishful thinking... No way they will be $300, probably more like $400. Also keep in mind quality and not just price - the MAG tv is a total POS; I bought an Olevia 32" last year from CC for $475 and I was very pleased. My friends were so impressed with it that three bought their own when it went on sale during the year, for around $550. I would definitely recommend checking out the tv a few days earlier before you go and wait for something that looks cheap and has a bad picture.

Good hunting :)

My prediction is that 32" LCD's will go for about $300 this year. Or at least that's what I'm hoping anyways :)

I'm trying to decide between a 32" and 42" though - I guess it all depends what the sales are like this year.

I am interested in buying a 37" to 42" LCD and wonder if it will be worth the wait. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks!
Tom's hardware reported that LCD sales were going to be around $300 less per panel, as compared to last year. The sizes quoted were for $300-$400 for 32-35inch to $700 for 42 inch LCD panels. If you look at Sears rumored ad, this would be right on target.

1080p for under 600 will make me happy, preferably 37"+

1080p is not really necessary until at least 42...and that is still questionable. the human eye just cannot really tell the diff at that size. promise. But, the 1080p gimmick is a great thing for you and me because it really shot down the prices of the other LCD's. Now, wait one more year and the LCD's will be going the way of the tube. again, trust me on this one.

I just returned an LG 50PC5D to Best Buy on Saturday. I used it for about 8 days. It does have great color and picture quality, but it does have a few irritations. Some of these are video noise, inaccurate greens (appear yellowish), some pixellation, and limited video settings. Standard DVDs upscaled to 1080i looked awesome and movies are generally great. I watch alot of football and it was mediocre (compared to other quality HDTVs).

Thanks for driving the market price down for the rest of us.:)

It is a damn shame that the consumer base widely accepts the fact now that a $1000 TV is a "throw away" commodity. The american consumer base should band together and hold manufacturers to higher standards - even at the cost of delayed relase time (are you listening microsoft?).I am into arcade collecting and those monitors are built to take years and years of constant use and abuse. Because of my experience with the longevity of crt tv's, I just can't bring myself to "accept" that a superior technology has a max life of 5 years, in most cases much less.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p#Ability_of_the_eye_to_see_1080p

1080p is only important when you sit too close, or when the size is very large. at sizes up to 40", 720p and 1080p are identical at the proper viewing distance (which is at least usually 1.5 x the TV size).

so, for a 32" TV, you should sit at least about 48" away, or about 4 ft. 4 ft from a 32" tv, you will not see the dif between 1080p and 720p.

All this talk of black friday is good for PC components and the like...but for a big ticket item, I would just find a store (like brandsmart) where the employees work on commission (not BB...) and then just talk to one for a while until you guys work out a compromise. They will eventually tell you what the lowest they can go is. If they don't, ask what the lowest they have ever sold one of those for it. Then offer them something a bit lower, but with the promise of a sale right then if they do. And then actually buy the TV from them. It is a jerk move to take their time and "make an offer" and back out. But anyways, this will usually result in a better deal than a big chain with hourly employees. I got a TV that was $999.00 at both BB and CC for $625.00 at brandsmart about a month ago. (it is actually my monitor right now )

In my opinion, when comparing HD signal, every plasma I have ever seen in person, looks better then any LCD I've seen in person.

but plasmas use a lot more energy...so cost more to own:mad:

Actually I thought that too, but power usage on a Plasma is variable, while an LCD is not. SO depends on how you use it. If everything you watch is super bright, then that might be the case but in normal viewing I think its a toss.

A $250 ps3 would mean be finally going to the Blu Ray world.

Not gonna happen. I got a 60 GB PS3 the other day (I had a store price match the Wal-Mart deal--$499 for console, blu-ray remote, a free game, and 5 free blu-ray DVDs). While purchasing it I asked the manager how PS3 sales have been lately. He said that since the 60 GB system came down to $499 with the freebies, sales have been nuts. He said his store went from 10 PS3s (60 GB) to 1 PS3 throughout the course of one weekend. And 40 GB pre-orders are supposedly mounting up. With such a strong demand as a result of the lower price, don't expect any further decreases in price for at least a few months.

I would rather spend $400-$450 and get a real solid tv than spend $250-$300 and get a mediocre (or worse) set. My question is, what kind of savings can I expect on Black Friday for what I am looking for? There don't seem to be many deals as far as less than 32 inch lcd tvs these days. Just like with pc monitors, the smallest accepted screen size for a bedroom or living room tv setup has gone up too.

However, you will probably be able to find a decent 32 inch brand (like syntax) for 400 or less on BF.

BB: Insignia NS-PDP42 42" Plasma - Current sale price $854 - It's 720p / 1080i
I would bet It will be on sale for $499

CC: Element FLX3710 37" LCD Current price $651 on sale - It's 720p / 1080i

Now, wait one more year and the LCD's will be going the way of the tube. again, trust me on this one.

care to elaborate more on this?

The explanation about 1080p and screen size is understandable. But I'm thinking strawberryman80, and me included, would like you to elaborate on the part about LCDs going the way of CRTs in one more year (in bold above). Are you saying that LCDs will be obsolete too? Thanks robear444.

Considering plasmas are getting harder to find, even though I like them myself, it would be interesting to see what he thinks will be available in a year.

Plasma = reflections.

I know too many people who hate their nice big TVs after buying them - all they can see
is reflections of windows, lamps, etc.

Picture sure does look great on my Sony LCD - just can't understand why someone would
choose plasma unless they have a very dark and/or blacked out environment. The 'better'
colors and faster response times and contrast ratios aren't worth a lick when all you see
is a huge bay window instead of the TV show.... especially when good LCDs have
amazing pictures too.

I would bet he is elaborating toward the oncoming LASER and OLED (already in Asia) and SED (surface conduction electron emitter display) TV's.
They are supposed to make the current crop of Plasma's and 1080p LCD's look inferior and much like the old CRT's.

By the video presentations on YouTube, CNET, and other places they do look pretty impressive. Supposedly the 50" Laser which visually blows away the best Plasma is supposed to be entering the market at somewhere between $1500 - $2000 and last longer without color degradation than the Best CRT. The OLED niche is they also look outstanding but use very little power and also should last a very long time.
The SED was supposed to be the big hit at 2007 CES but Toshiba / Canon and another company were fighting out patent rights and it never happened. Also because of that Toshiba never built their new super hi-tech assembly building in Japan for these TV's. They look promising but cost is a huge question on both OLED and SED at this point.

So again, just my hunch what he is getting at.
BTW - Mits - is releasing their laser by Feb, 08 at the last update I got.

SED is dead. OLED is 5 years away. before we see LCD tv's we will first see small OLED computer monitors

cheap plasmas look horrible. LCD has better quality control. the best HDTV's are the pioneer elites. even with 1024x768 resolution they look better than 1080p screens. HD still has a very long way to go.

I need some help, please! I am looking for 25-27" LCD tvs. I am looking for the best value, not the best price. I would rather spend $400-$450 and get a real solid tv than spend $250-$300 and get a mediocre (or worse) set. My question is, what kind of savings can I expect on Black Friday for what I am looking for? Is it really going to be something worth waiting for, or are the "normal" sale prices pretty close to what I should expect? Help, please.

you should have no issue finding something in your price range

costco b&m currently has a 26" westy for 449, so your desire is reasonable

Im aiming for a 46+ 1080p for around 1100 also. But im am not sure how this is going to play out.

I feel that there are going to be a lot of tv of 750p or low brand 1080p available. But i don't know if a decent brand 46" 1080p is going to be available in the range we are hoping for.

I think a good brand 46" samsung sony panny etc...will be around $1500 in certain stores. There maybe some rare items that might go under this but that is my feeling.

If there is anyone who thinks im wrong.....please feel free to give me their input and give me some hope..lol!!!!!

In the mean time, im going to scope out the deals on SD and the BF ads. I feel that super black friday deals sometimes happen on other days other than black Friday. You have to be patient and lucky.

From what I have learned unless you have a 50" or greater you will not notice the difference between 720 and 1080. Yes you want HDMI and you want as many inputs and different types of inputs as possible.

Plasma cannot lay down AT ALL. LCDs can lay down when moving them.

You also may want to pay attention to angle of viewing. I woudl recommend 170. That means you can be 170 degrees from the center of the tv and still see a good picture.

:lmao: My main TV is still the set I got for Christmas when I was in middle school (at the very least 10 years ago). I'm looking to buy one this year.

Yeah the TV that I have is the one that I've had since I was about 13 and my parents gave it to me after they had used it for about 4 yrs. So I'm 25 now...so thats about ~16 yrs old. It's a sanyo brand :) top quality there huh boys! It's a CRT though, so if they weren't making everyone go digital there would probably be ppl keeping them for 25+ years! Actually, come to think of it....I don't ever remember my grandparents having a different TV.

But honestly...if any TV I buy lasts 10+ years I wouldn't be too sad about having to buy a new one. That would give me an excuse. Right now thats what I'm needing to happen so I can convince my wife to let me get an LCD big screen!

Plasmas can lay down fine. It's usually that you dont want to lay them face down because the electronics weight may crack the screen, according to what I've read. I've SEEN plenty of plasma tv's mounted in ceilings or in floors... so they CAN lay down.

Also, about viewing angle - just don't forget that after a certain angle(depending on the size of the tv, etc) you lose the ability to see the far end of the screen regardless of whether the picture is viewable - you just can't process out the distortion. Look at my chart below:

|-|\
|T| \
|V| \
|_| \
\
\
_____\
YOU

At this angle it MIGHT be viewable, but move "you" over 3 or so spaces to left and you lose the ability to view the "topmost"(in this image, or the rightmost in real life) section of the screen just because of the angle. It's not that the image is washed out or unviewable - you still see there is SOMETHING there... but you can't figure out what because it's so distorted. This is the same effect on a painting or picture, etc

When I was shopping for TVs some of the plasmas said right on the box to not tip the unit more than 15 degrees. When inquiring as to why this would cause problems, the salesperson told me that the gas inside the screen is a mixture consisting of different weights and densities, and if the screen is tipped, the gasses will pool and create odd colors. I myself have never seen a floor- or ceiling- mounted plasma, but have seen a few LCDs. Bottom line: I wouldn't tip a plasma.

Other things:
Warranty. Some are 6 months, some 2 years

Built-In HD Tuner / QAM Tuner. If you not using a cable box you'll need this to get HD channels, and a QAM Tuners to get scrambled HD Channels.

HDMI Inputs. The more the better. With PS3's, XBox, HD DVD & BluRay, Series 3 Tivos, and HD Cable boxes using HDMI outputs, the more the better.

Looks. Piano Finish, Flat Finish, Silver, Black, Speakers on Side or Bottom...

Price. Sharp and Samsungs are great TVs, but expensive. Vizios and Olevia are 2 highly rated bargain brands. Vizio is the top selling flat panel HDTV brand in America. Yep, more than Sony, Sharp and Samsung...

Some other features to be aware of are Brightness, Response Time, and Contrast Ratio. Don't let that be all you look at though. And be weary of some sellers. My local Circuit City likes to tweak the settings and HD on the expensive brands, then put the Olevia on SD...

Spade914 try the emprex 32 deal at Frys - will probably be 397 again for Nov 11 - when/if you buy it see if you are guaranteed a refund if it is lower on B.F.

My sixth sense tells me that most good sales will be on TVs that are 720 not 1080. A lot of specials are now starting to popup before B.F. - I expect Nov 11th to be a very big sale weekend - so stick close to the web and monitor the HDTVs. Lately CC has been offering some web deals(mistakes?) that disappear (die) the next day. Be aware of how a PM works at each store with other retailers. A lot of the recent sales has been because of PMs, or even price mistakes(they say!). READ PM policy! I now really feel that retaillers have overloaded their inventory of HDTVs and are very scared of poor holiday sale projections - the after xmas sales on HDTVs should be a delight to all, a 720 TV will be a better deal then a 1080 (prices) and you may not notice the difference - read up on it if you are not sure. Good luck to all.

PM in this case is a price match not price mistake. Frys, Sears and others guarantee the lowest price or they will price match and pay 110% of the difference, including for the next 30 days. BUT, watch the different wording at each store. It is not that simple with all the "fine print" type conditions. Say, Frys will sell the Emprex for $397 on nov 9th thru Nov ? Does that cover a sale say for $300 at their retail store on Black Friday - nope - Depends if you bought from their web site or the retail store and if Black Friday is considered a special sale (even in the retail store) - that's is why I say get it in writing if at all possible, if you buy next weekend. Also you need to beware of some of the fine PM conditions.
Like Sears with its instant rebate in the retail store - they subtract that from say from their own set price and add Frys shipping price to Frys final price - which sometimes kills a PM deal. Will retail stores like Sears, Circuit City or Best PM with Frys (Outpost web site); sometimes NO, sometimes YES! If you know their policy it really helps. Will Frys retail store honor a pm with it's own web site - NO (in the fine print). B.F. is considered a special sale (limited quanities captioned) - most have a disclaimer that they will not PM in these conditions; but, have they in the past? There are many examples in past Black Fridays (especially with Pansonic TVs) where they have. So it is best that you know what the policy of each store is. There are plenty of examples, say of the recent and still going on Panasonic (circuit city) deal(labeled dead), or even the Sears price mistake 40 inch 40KLV3000 thread (oh, what a slick deal that was). Oh, an added note - when deals come out disregard sometimes the thumb down labeled on the thread, sometimes they want to discourage people from killing the deal - with stupid calls to the stores or corporate hq. Customer Service (CS) make mistakes and managers are suppose to ok these types of matches just to catch those types of mistakes, do they always, NO! Do managers overrule or sometimes make the deal after a good logical argument, yes they do. It's a surprising world out there. You need to research and be aware that some bad TVs are gong to be sold this B.F. Frys raised theprice on the Emprex to 999, but are raising the inventory at most Frys across the nation. Lowering a price leader from $999 to $397 brings in the people does it not, it is a real bargain? No! Just good advertising. From what I have learned unless you have a 50" or greater you will not notice the difference between 720 and 1080.

I have a 720p 32" and I notice...a lot
Now, many sets are 1080i while being 720p, and that's a slightly different story. 1080i and 1080p difference is less noticeable. But a straight up comparison between a 1080p and 720p...it's pretty noticeable if you look for more than a few seconds

What are my chances of scoring an ~32" HDTV in the $300 range? :(

For $300 exactly, your chances are very slim to nil. For $3xx, your chances are good, but you'd have to line up early and get ready to fight the other customers

For me, I'm still deciding b/w a 720p 46"+ and a 1080p. Prices are too close to make an easy decision. Buy and upgrade later, or buy and keep

Sorry buddy...you're wrong.

It's been proven time and time again that there is no discernable difference between 1080p and 720p in sets smaller than 50"...and at 32"...haha...no. The only time you're going to notice a difference is when you're using it as a computer monitor.

However, the above is somewhat subjective.

In regards to 720p vs. 1080i. Did you know that LCD, DLP, and I believe plasmas (I could be wrong on the plasmas) displays are unable to display interlaced images natively right? So, unless you have a CRT HDTV you only can compare 720p vs. 1080p. A 1080i image is going to get downconverted or upconverted depending to the native resolution of your display.

Thank you for the input on writing posts.

I did not say the Emprex "sucks" or I would not have led someone in their direction. Some people find they are not happy with them for various reasons, including lack of customer support and some actual problems. Others like you are very happy especially with the price. If I had limited funds, I would lean toward the 32Emprex; but, for an extra $425, there have been a number of times when a 42 Panasonic Plasma 60U, 75U, 77U - 720p - all have been available through various slick deals. See previous slick deals during the past year.

I would rather spend the money for a known reliable HDTV then something that may break down after a couple of years. I bought a offbrand 32 - Niko - a couple of years ago because it was cheap. After a couple of years it's still running good but I still feel it will break down very soon.

Philips have a poor track record. Please refer to the number of refurbished out there in constant deals. Not to many refurbished Panasonics out there. A lot of Pansonic owners rave over their TVs. Samsung has a better record then Philips but I have limited experience with them.

I saw this today on the Sears Fri/Sat ad from bfads. It saids $1999 before $500 "Instant" savings. See the pic below, $1500 for 46" 1080P Bravia thats not bad. What do you all think?

First off, im pretty sure this is not 1080p..i believe it is 720p. IMHO not the best deal.

If you are looking for and 1080p lcd, i feel that there are better choices out (and better prices) there..whether it happens on BF or not.

There was a Samsung LNT4661 that was at Frys for $1600ish which is 1080p and i believe 10000:1 contrast ratio. A much better tv than this sony.

here is the link to that old deal.

If i were you, unless you were looking for a 720p tv, i would keep looking at the bf ads and after. The sony lcds are spectacular but those are the higher models that are $$$$$.

Hope that helps out.

Best deal on a full 1080P TV is the Sylvania 42".

Sears will be selling this model BF for $899.

Unless you can find a very special deal, the sonys 40,46 will be anything but cheap in the next couple of weeks. There will be plenty of ads saying discounts of 500 etc off the going price of say 2,000 - still not cheap - and not a good deal. Most of the deals will be for the 2500 series which had some problems and have been replaced by the 3000 series, which are very over-priced. The machines are still better then say the Emprex, Maganvox, Philips - but at 1,000+ more, anything but a good deal. There is another thread which states that Sears will be selling a Magnavox 42 at a very low price, starting tomorrow. Please read up on Magnavox before taking the plunge - even when you really like the price.

Not sure if anyone knows or can help on this..I'm looking into getting the Panasonic 42' 780 with Anti Glare (TH42PX77U). Sears appears to have the best price $950..$1100 less the $150 instant rebate (you have to purchase on your Sears CC).,,before taxes. Would Circuit City or another competitor match the $950 price or the $1100 price?? Also, does anyone think this TV will be at a better price for the holiday season?

Target will have an Olevia 37" 1080i Widescreen LCD HDTV for
$549

dondeal80

The Olevia at that price would be a good deal! The Panasonic 77 mentioned above - is a very good TV (excellent); and I recommend the TV - that deal is not as bad as you think. You may want to wait until Sears employee day coming up Sunday and buy it from Sears with ( I believe an additonal 5% off). If you do get 5% additional, jump on it. The 150 sears card expires on the 17th and I believe the 5% off can be stacked with - IN THE RETAIL store not over the web.

For the Emprex HD3202(?) followers - NOTE - please read the other threads - someone posted an update alerting everyone to what I consider some important info concerning the latest version of the TV.

For the Sear's magnavox deal at 799 - appears dead on the web, but the retail stores are steering customers to a 32 Olevia deal at the same price. With the above mentioned 37 at target cheaper...

I agree that it's subjective, but bear in mind that I use my tv for web browsing in addition to normal tv usage (so you could say that I am using it with a computer). Basically, all tv's that I use are somehow connected to one type of computer or another, and have web browsing capabilities, among others. Reading is a pain on 720p. But I'll agree with you that it's difficult to discern the difference between 1080p and 720p while watching a movie on a 3x incher.

Price Correction Question
I was hoping to avoid the line for the Olevia 37-inch widescreen LCD HDTV for $549 on BF, so thought I may purchase ahead of time and get a price correction on BF. I asked one manager and was told "as long as the TV was purchased within the 2 weeks prior to BF, they would price correct to the BF price on that day".....but when I asked the salesperson in TV's he said "they will not do a price correction on BF deals".

Anyone know the real truth on this?

Thanks!

It always depends on who you talk to. The fact that a manager said yes...you should have bought the TV right there and made the manager write on the receipt or another piece of paper that they would price match. I have done this in similar situations so that they couldn't change their mind!

Keep in mind that, if they will price match on BF, you will usually still have to be there when the sale is valid. For example, if it is a doorbuster until 9 a.m., you have to be there before 9 a.m. to pricematch.

I wonder if anyone has ever had to take a store to court for something a customer had in writing from a manager, but the store refused to honor later?

Added note from my above comments - Sears has been steering customers to a 42 inch 720 Olevia - out the door w/tax $704 (Sears card use and 150 off). See that Magnavox - Sears thread (three of them out there, most recent/not Selma's).

So far, I am very disappointed with the lack of big screen 1080p televisions that are coming out. I am looking for at least a 46 inch, but would be happier with a 52 inch. Some of the 46 inch 1080p LCDs are not the best. I would like to see a Sony, Sanyo, Phillips, Samsung, or Panasonic Plasma for that matter.

I just hope that something comes down the pipe here soon.

I'm dissapointed in general with the so called "deals" being placed on the TVs. I've been looking for a nice 37", but so far the Olevia is the only one with a good deal going for it, and it's not that solid of a brand.

The sharp is bigger but the Olivea has PiP and is $250 less. I'm still hoping for a 42inch 1080p besides the HP that Cnet said sucks lol.

Its usually something like 3000-5000 hours I believe. Assume you watch 3 hours of TV/day 365 days per year, thats three to five years for replacement. I've had a Samsung DLP since February 2006 and its still going strong on the original bulb.

Im looking for a 1080p and BF this year is looking poop.

the 46" is actually a pretty good deal. Usually i have noticed that 1080p at 46" and above from quality brand names are at least in the range of $2000. This is also making me think about the 52" at $2200. This tv does not do 1080p/24f. It has a 10000:1 contrast ration and some on the avs forums have been seeing some banding problems and other small random issues.

I was hoping for a slightly higher end on sale like a xbr4 or a sammy 71 series (both with their own problems but i think all the tvs have some sort of issue)

I hope there is a better secret deal on BF online!

For the CircuitCity credit card, do you have to apply there for the 0% financing for 24 months or can I apply now for the card & use the 0% financing when I buy it??

I have 3 other credit cards that I can put it on, but I just paid off my last credit card last month. Going to have my $0 balance for less than 1 month :(
